Coker College to host social work conference

Coker College’s Social Work Department will host a conference on Oct. 11 entitled “Combating Human Trafficking in South Carolina: Implications for Social Work and Law Enforcement.” The conference will run from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center and is open to anyone interested in learning more about human trafficking in the state. Registration is available at www.cokercollege.

Miss S.C. State University to be crowned Thursday

Sadia M. Robinson will be crowned Miss S.C. State University 2013-2014 at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center in Orangeburg. This will be the first time in 15 years that an Orangeburg native has received the crown.

USC Upstate to hold World Peace Symposium

German diplomat Christoph Sander will keynote the sixth annual World Peace Symposium at the University of South Carolina Upstate on Friday. The event, hosted by USC Upstate and Rotary International, will focus on the European Union’s receipt of the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize. It will feature a panel of international students discussing conflict within their home countries. The public is invited to attend the symposium, which will begin at 1 p.m. in the school’s Sansbury Campus Life Center.
