COLUMBIA, SC — One person was killed and another injured in a five-vehicle crash on eastbound Interstate 26 early Monday morning.
The crash occurred at 6:46 a.m. near the Bush River Road exit, just outside the Columbia city limits, according to Cpl. Bill Rhyne with the S.C. Highway Patrol. It backed up morning commuters for miles toward Irmo. All lanes were reopened around lunchtime.
Damion C. Larrabee, 36, of West Columbia was killed, according to Richland County Coroner Gary Watts. He was driving a 2005 Harley-Davidson was pronounced dead at the scene from multi-trauma. He was not wearing a helmet.
Kerrie Green, a 41-year-old Columbia resident driving a 2002 Pontiac, was injured and transported to Palmetto Baptist Hospital.
No injuries were suffered in three other vehicles involved in the crash.
Rhyne said the S.C. Highway Patrol and its MAIT team were investigating the incident.
