CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) – A Charleston County 911 call center employee has been charged with misconduct after being accused of never responding to emergency calls.
Sheriff's Maj. James Brady says 27-year-old Dezerea Shelton of Hanahan is charged with obstruction of justice and misconduct in office. She was awaiting a bond hearing. It was not immediately clear if she had an attorney.
Brady says the department began investigating after complaints Shelton had not properly handled emergency calls. The investigation found that 45 calls Shelton fielded between January and August were either not logged, the information was deleted or not passed on for dispatching.
Brady said one call was for medical help, the others were for law enforcement assistance. Brady says no other workers were involved.
