Orangeburg man sought in possible scams

ORANGEBURG Sheriff’s deputies in Orangeburg County are looking for a man who may be targeting Midlands residents with a scam.

Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said in a Wednesday news release that John William Smith III of Orangeburg man is wanted for receiving money for an uncompleted roofing job.

Ravenell said several victims have given Smith money for home repairs but received no work. The latest victim gave Smith $1,385 for a roof repair.

Ravenell said there may be victims across the Midlands.

Anyone with information concerning Smith’s whereabouts is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC.
