Man released from hospital, charged with murder in weekend shooting

— COLUMBIA A man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend and crashing his vehicle while fleeing the scene was formally charged Wednesdy with murder.

John Washington, 58, was hospitalized Saturday night at Palmetto Heath Richland after wrecking his vehicle on the entrance ramp to Interstate 77 at Killian Road. Deputies said he was fleeing 616 Cottontail Court in Northeast Richland County, where they said Washington shot Zelda D. Kollock, 51. Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said she was shot multiple times in the upper body.
