Sunday letters: Folks live in what they can afford

— The people who tweeted cute comments about Miss South Carolina and the fact that nearly 20 percent of South Carolinians live in factory-built homes don’t know much about the people or the housing industry in our state.

Granted her comments were a little weird, but the fact is that more than 350,000 S.C. families do live in manufactured homes. These are good people who are making the best use of their dollars to buy food, clothing and shelter for their families. They are the firefighters, EMTs, police officers and factory workers who serve the rest of us.

Blue-collar workers and hourly wage-earners work hard all day to take care of their families and keep a roof over their heads. I’m proud of these people and proud of our state.
