Sunday letters: Bear attack calls for tough action

September 22, 2013

— The Sept. 11 article, “Captive bear attacked by hunting dogs; man charged,” was just sickening. What a bunch of sick people. How much more inhumane can you get than to file the bear’s teeth and declaw the animal so it cannot defend itself while being chained and let it be attacked more than 100 times a day. And they call this a sport. You’ve got to be kidding.

Any person with any authority who will allow this to continue is just as sick as the people performing this so-called sport. The people at the Department of Natural Resources should be ashamed of themselves for not stopping this inhumane so-called sport. We need some really harsh penalties for those caught by this heinous act.
