USC, Dartmouth draw

At Stone Stadium, after playing 110 minutes of soccer for the second time in three days, South Carolina (2-4-2) tied Dartmouth (3-0-3) in the final match of the 2013 Gamecock Classic on Sunday afternoon.

Between the posts, freshman USC Marco Velez recorded his first career shutout, collecting a save.

Clemson routs Alabama A&M

At Clemson, 10 Tigers scored at least one goal, and the Clemson women’s soccer team defeated Alabama A&M 14-0 on Sunday afternoon at Historic Riggs Field. The Tigers improved to 5-2-2 (2-1 ACC) with the win, while the Bulldogs fell to 0-10 (0-0 SWAC).

The 14 goals, 20 assists and 48 points broke school records of 10 goals, 15 assists and 35 points, which were set Sept. 1, 1998 when the Tigers defeated Auburn on the road. Senior forward Deana Sherry recorded her first career hat trick for Clemson.

USC tied for sixth

At Daufuskie Island, the South Carolina men’s golf team carded a 10-over 298 to open play at the Rees Jones Invitational at Haig Point Club.

The Gamecocks, who host the event, are tied for sixth with two rounds left. Sophomore Matt NeSmith and junior Will Murphy led USC with even-par 72s.

College women’s golf

USC finishes second

At Knoxville, Tenn., the South Carolina women’s golf team shot an 8-over 292 at Cherokee Country Club to finish in second place at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship. After Saturday’s round was postponed because of weather, the Gamecocks concluded the tournament with a two-round score of 571 (+3).

No. 8 Arkansas finished in first place with a two-round score of 563 (-5).

Samantha Swinehart led USC, finishing in a tie for second after shooting an even-par 71 to conclude with a two-round score of 140 (-2).

Clemson is runner-up

At Greenville, Ashlan Ramsey won individual medalist honors, and the Clemson women’s golf team finished second at the Lady Paladin Invitational. Clemson shot a team score of 867, two shots behind Wisconsin.

Ramsey had rounds of 68, 71, and 70. Her 7-under-par 209 is the Lady Paladin Invitational tournament record

College club hockey

USC drops two

At Newport News, Va., the USC club hockey team lost two games to Christopher Newport this past weekend.

The Gamecocks (2-2) lost 7-6 on Friday and 4-2 on Saturday.

The Gamecocks travel to Orlando, Fla. on Thursday to play two games against Central Florida.
