Monday letters: Thank Obama for a boring time

September 23, 2013

Obama First President Bush

All of the letters attacking Obama for his proposed strike upon Syria have made me misty-eyed with nostalgia for George Walker Bush. Who can forget the secret Thanksgiving trip to the front to deliver the plastic turkey to the troops, the sexy flight-suit and landing on the carrier, the macho “bring-it-on” bravado under the “Mission Accomplished” banner and the 4,000 military deaths in a war in Iraq that should have never been fought.

All of those are fast-fading memories, because for the last five years we’ve been stuck with a president whose primary foreign policy goal has been to reduce our casualties while killing Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda, the people who actually brought us 9/11. No plastic turkeys at the front, no sexy flight suits, no “bring-it-on” bravado, no invasions under false pretenses. How boring.
