LCSD seeks help with 2009 Gaston shooting

September 23, 2013

GASTON Officials at the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department are hoping the public can help solve a 2009 fatal shooting in Gaston.

Anderw Phillip Powell, 21, of 225 Goodwin Road was shot and killed Sept. 24, 2009, at his home. Sheriff James Metts said detectives have identified persons of interest and that it was not a random act, according to a news release.

Detectives are seeking evidence that would establish probably cause in order to obtain arrest warrants.

At 4:26 a.m. on Sept. 25, 2009, deputies arrived at Powell’s home after Powell’s stepfather, Billy Mack Powell, reported that he had arrived home and Andrew Powell was not breathing. Deputies found Andrew Powell dead, lying on his back in the corner of the home’s living room.

Metts asked anyone with information about Andrew Powell or Andrew Powell’s death to contact the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department at (803) 785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
