Thursday letters: Protect those who serve

September 26, 2013

Are you aware that police officers protecting you are paying $1,290.60 a month for HMO insurance for a full family and $921.84 for the officer and their spouse under the state plan? Are you also aware that the average police officer salary statewide is $38,700?

Are you OK with those who are sworn to protect you paying more than 40 percent of their income for medical insurance? Is having BlueCross BlueShield the standalone provider of health coverage the most competitive answer? Protect those who serve.
