Friday letters: Leaders should put up or resign

Congress Returns

.

J. SCOTT APPLEWHITE — AP

As a federal government worker, I am disheartened that the so-called leaders in Washington are even talking about a government shutdown. Federal employees already have gone through one furlough, and are now facing another.

I have a challenge for our leadership: If the president and Congress are so intent on balancing the budget, they should pull their big-boy panties on, repeal the sequestration law and replace it with a law that says if the president and Congress do not balance the budget in the next 60 days, then they will resign from their posts.

Let’s see who has enough backbone to take on this challenge. Let their actions show us how serious they really are. Their words up to this point are worthless.
