One dead in Batesburg-Leesville wreck

The passenger died Saturday morning in a one-car wreck in Batesburg-Leesville that left the driver in serious condition.

Dead is Christopher Otto, 21, of Batesburg-Leesville.

The S.C. Highway Patrol reports the wreck happened at 9:35 a.m. on Broad Street when driver Nicholas Otto, 23, ran into the ditch and hit a utility pole in his 2001 Mitsubishi.

It was not immediately known how the two young men were related.

Both were airlifted to Palmetto Health Richland, according to news reports.

The driver was not wearing a seatbelt. The passenger was, authorities said.
