— A 31-year-old man was arrested this week, charged with making a bomb threat toward his former employer.

Michael Smith was arrested Tuesday and charged with making a bomb threat on Sept. 28. Sheriff’s deputies and the Columbia Fire Department responded to 9370 Windsor Lake Boulevard on the reported threat. No device was found.

Smith had been counseled for poor work performance on Sept. 27 and made a threatening comment to a cowrorker the same day, according to a press release from the sheriff’s department. The address is home to the Waterford at Columbia, a senior living community near Sesquicentennial State Park.

Sheriff Leon Lott said in the release that any threat to a citizen, business, school or community will be taken seriously and investigated.
