State Fair Countdown: 6 days

There are just six days until the gates open for the 2013 S.C. State Fair. The fair runs Oct. 9-20 in Columbia. Here are a few key reminders about the 144th annual fair.

Tickets

Oct. 8 is the last day to buy advance discount admission and ride tickets. Buy admission tickets at www.scstatefair.org or at any Bi-Lo store; discount ride tickets available only at Bi-Lo. Admission (ages 6-54) is $7 in advance, $10 once the fair opens. Ride vouchers are $23 in advance, $28 once the fair opens. The ride vouchers can be exchanged any weekday for a pay-one-price wristband or any day for 28 ride coupons. Kiddie rides require two or three tickets; adult rides, three or four.

Daily deals

Admission for seniors 55 and older is $7; tickets must be purchased at the gate. Children ages 5 and younger and active and retired military personnel and their dependents with proper identification will be admitted free.

For foodies

Wondering what’s new to eat this year? If you’re adventurous when it comes to burgers, consider the Redneck Burger, with cheese, bacon, fried bologna, baked beans, potato sticks and all the fixins’ on a bun. There’s also the Mac & Cheese Burger, with cheese, bacon, mac and cheese and all the fixins’.

Youth entrance policy

Fair visitors 15 years old and younger must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian 21 years old or older to be admitted to the fair after 5 p.m. each day.

In the Grandstand

This year’s musical lineup includes three free concerts – Corey Smith, The Temptations and Kirk Franklin. The remaining acts include The Band Perry, Foreigner, Hunter Hayes, Needtobreathe, and Justin Moore. Tickets range from $15 to $30 and include gate admission if purchased online.
