Friday letters: We call these public servants?

Congress Returns

A Tuesday headline in The State read, “Congress’ angry showdown ends in a federal shutdown.”

Congress has names and faces. These individuals harassed us with their phone calls to get elected. They bombarded our mailboxes, explaining why they were the best fit for the job. They butted in on our favorite programs. Many of the same people and businesses that contributed to their campaigns will now suffer from this shutdown.

We waited long hours and took off personal time to stand in line to vote for them. The person you voted for is drawing a salary during this shutdown while our economy and retirement hangs in the balance. Although I am and forever will be a patriot, I am having serious doubts about the people that we have elected to be our “public servants”.
