Beijing, China (SportsNetwork.com) - Jessica Korda carded a 5-under 68 on Friday to grab a 2-stroke lead at the inaugural Reignwood LPGA Classic.
Korda finished 36 holes at Pine Valley Golf Club at 14-under-par 132. She is seeking her second career victory on the LPGA Tour.
"I started a little slow today, but all in all I think it was a great day," said Korda. "I putted really well, just kind of did the same things I was doing the first day. A little different score, but I'm not really disappointed with that."
Shanshan Feng, who is the highest ranked player from China in the field at No. 10, fired a 9-under 64 during her second round to vault into a share of second place with Stacy Lewis at 12-under 134. Lewis shot a 7-under 66 to meet Feng there.
"I think yesterday I did play under pressure because I wanted to do well, but actually I think the pressure made me like couldn't give it my all, and today I was like 'I'm going to give it all,'" said Feng. "I mean this is the time. So I tried my best on every shot. Of course, I did miss a few birdie putts, but I made nine birdies with no bogeys, so I think that was a great round."
Na Yeon Choi owned a share of the first-round lead with Korda, but managed just a 2-under 71 on Friday to sit in fifth place at 11-under. Inbee Park (68) owns fifth at minus-9.
Korda and Choi entered the second round tied at 9-under, but Korda bogeyed the first to hand Choi the outright lead. Choi bogeyed the second to also fall to 8-under.
Korda briefly pulled ahead with a birdie at the fourth, but bogeyed the fifth to fall back into a tie with Choi.
Choi then bogeyed the sixth to fall to 7-under and hand Korda the outright lead.
Feng, meanwhile, had raced up the leaderboard with five birdies in a seven- hole span from the third to meet Korda atop the leaderboard at 8-under.
Choi briefly made it a three-way tie for the lead with a birdie at the seventh before Korda reeled off three straight gains from the seventh to jump to 11- under and grab a 2-stroke lead.
Feng had stayed hot with a birdie at the 12th, while Choi birdied the ninth to meet Feng at 9-under.
Feng birdied the 14th to grab sole possession of second place and pull within a stroke of the lead, but Korda answered with a gain at the 12th to regain her 2-stroke cushion.
Feng later closed her round with birdies at the 16th and 18th to meet Korda at 12-under.
Korda, however, quickly pulled back ahead with back-to-back birdies at the 15th and 16th to move to 14-under. She parred her final two holes to finish there.
Lewis recorded 10 pars around a birdie over her first 11 holes to sit at 6- under before reeling off sixth straight birdies from the 12th to race up the leaderboard and meet Feng at 12-under.
NOTES: Korda has made 35 starts since collecting her first career win at the 2012 Women's Australian Open ... This is the first time the LPGA Tour has visited Beijing ... The field for this event consists of players from both the LPGA and China LPGA ... Feng became the first Chinese golfer -- male or female -- to win a major championship when she took the title at the 2012 Wegmans LPGA Championship.
