— 87-year-old woman listed as missing by Columbia police has been found and is being treated at a Midlands hospital.

Shirley Schwenker, last seen at her relatives’ Westwood Avenue home on Friday, wrecked her car in Calhoun County, police said late Saturday morning. Just hours before, they had sent out a bulletin asking people to look for her and her car, which has a Virginia license plate.

A passerby saw the woman’s green Honda Accord in a ditch in Calhoun County and called 911, police said. The state Highway Patrol responded and ran her tag through the national crime information center database and learned she was missing.

Schwenker is receiving medical attention at a local hospital, according to CPD spokeswoman, officer Jennifer Timmons.

It’s unclear when the accident happened.

Relatives returned home late Friday and noticed that Schwenker and her vehicle were gone, according to a press release.
