Tuesday letters: Senators should block nomination

October 8, 2013

— I urge Sens. Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott to reject the nomination of Circuit Judge Alison Lee to a seat on the federal bench. Judge Lee has repeatedly demonstrated exceedingly poor judgment in substantially reducing bonds for defendants with multiple prior charges for violent offenses. These defendants have secured bond and subsequently committed murders upon their release.

I point to Lorenzo Young and Dequan Vereen; perhaps there have been others. It seems the citizens of Edgefield County were thrilled to say goodbye to Judge Lee in 2008 when she moved to Richland County.
