Actress Phylicia Rashad, who starred in TV’s "The Cosby Show", will visit the University of South Carolina and Claflin University in Orangeburg on Tuesday as part of a S.C. Democratic Party college tour.
Rashad also will attend a fundraiser that evening at the state Democratic party headquarters. Tickets cost $50-$250.
Rashad and S.C. Democratic Chairman Jaime Harrison will discuss “the importance of civic engagement and student involvement in politics,” the party said.
She will speak at Claflin’s WVM Auditorium at 2:30 p.m. and USC’s Russell House at 5:30 p.m.
Rashad’s visit generated some quips from S.C. GOP executive director Alex Stroman who tweeted: “@SCDP really understands Youth Outreach w/ Phylicia Rashad: Cosby Show ended in 1992---three years before USC Freshmen were born.”
U.S. Rep. Joe Kennedy, Robert Kennedy’s grandson, is still slated to visit S.C. colleges after postponing his one-day tour late last month with the impending congressional budget crisis, Democratic officials said.
