Serial rapist met women on social dating website, Richland deputies say

From staff reportsOctober 12, 2013

— Richland County deputies have arrested a man they say raped and robbed three women he met on a social dating website.

Sheriff Leon Lott on Saturday announced the arrest of Denzil Jones, 28, who is charged with three counts of criminal sexual conduct as well as armed robbery.

Investigators arrested Jones at his home on Friday after following up on significant leads, Lott said in a news release. He said Jones would solicit women on “Tagged,” a social dating website. He said Jones met three women on three separate occasions in the area of Joe Frazier Court and Smith Street, near the intersection of Shop Road and Interstate 77.

Jones allegedly showed them a handgun and sexually assaulted the victims. He also stole an iPhone from one of his victims, Lott said.

The sheriff’s department is asking women who think they might have been a victim of Jones to contact the department at (803) 576-3102.

The sheriff reminds everyone to be cautious when using social dating websites.

Jones was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
