— The pedestrian who died after being struck by oncoming traffic in Richland County Friday night has been identified, officials say.

Darius E. Brown, 20, of Hartsville, was killed after he was struck by two vehicles while out for a run on Longtown Road in northeast Richland County, Coroner Gary Watts said Sunday afternoon. The accident occurred at 8:25 p.m. Friday, Lance Corporal Judd Jones with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said.

Brown was running in the road when he was first struck by the outside mirror of a passing vehicle, Watts said. The blow then knocked him into the path of another vehicle, described as a pickup truck by Jones, and headed in the opposite direction.

Brown was taken to Palmetto Health Richland but died from injuries sustained in the collision, Watts said. He was visiting family in the area when he decided to go out for a jog, Watts said.

Neither the driver nor a passenger in the pickup was injured.
