Columbia ranks high in health care jobs

October 13, 2013

The Columbia area ranks as one of the best job markets for health care professionals, according to NerdWallet.com.

The finance news website looked at job availability in markets across the country. Columbia ranked as the 10th top place to look for a health professional to look for a job based on the percentage of job openings in that field.

NerdWallet found 13.9 percent of the metro area’s job openings are in the health care field. According to job listings this week on the websites of the three large hospital systems in Richland and Lexington counties, they have 505 openings – 410 at Palmetto Health, 48 at Lexington Medical Center and 47 at Providence Hospitals.

The top market for health professionals according to NerdWallet is El Paso, Texas, with 23.6 percent of all job openings in that field. No other South Carolina markets were in the top 10, but Augusta was No. 9.
