Game notes: White Knoll opened the region campaign with a 35-20 win over Aiken that was more convincing than the score might indicate. The Timberwolves raced to a 35-0 lead before calling off the dogs after intermission. Tailback Quin Jones ran for 115 yards and two touchdowns on just eight carries. Fullback Emond Brown did not score, but he did rumble for 123 yards on 12 totes. Quarterback Craig Blakey ran for 56 yards and two TDs and threw for 83 yards and one tally. WR Calev Grubbs caught all three of Blakeys tosses. Caleb Brian and Demarquis Bellamy were the defensive headliners with 13 tackles apiece North Augusta coughed up 12 points in the fourth quarter, including the decisive touchdown with 1:46 to go, on the way to an 18-14 loss to Lexington. QB Trib Reece was 20-for-33 passing for 214 yards and two touchdowns in the losing effort.
Series history: North Augusta has won five in a row and nine of the 11 meetings in the series.
Lexington (6-1, 1-0 Region 5-4A) vs. South Aiken (1-6, 0-1)
Site: WildCat Stadium. Time: Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Game notes: Lexington rallied from a 14-6 deficit in the fourth quarter to hand North Augusta its first loss of the season in last weeks region opener. The game-winning score was a 93-yard scoring pass from Will Hunter to Ryan Brown with 1:46 remaining in the game. Prior to the big play, Hunter was 9-for-27 passing for 106 yards and no TDs. RB Garvin Jackson continues to excel. He had 123 yards and one TD on 23 carriers. Grayson Chumley was a standout on both sides of the ball with 15 tackles on defense and 22 yards rushing and one touchdown on offense Three turnovers aside, South Aiken had a decent offensive game in a 59-28 loss to Dutch Fork. The Thoroughbreds rang up 208 yards rushing, 325 overall, but had no defensive answers.
Series history: Lexington holds a 13-6 series lead, but South Aiken pulled off a 20-14 upset last season.
Aiken (1-6, 0-1 Region 5-4A) vs. Dutch Fork (5-2, 1-0)
Site: Louis Hagood Stadium. Time: Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Game notes: Dutch Fork ended a two-game losing streak with a 59-28 dismantling of South Aiken. The Silver Foxes amassed 484 yards and 30 first downs on offense and was 6-for-6 in red zone chances. RB Matt Coburn returned with 84 yards rushing and three touchdowns in limited duty. QB Derek Olenchuk was his usual efficient self, connecting on 19 of 22 passes for 296 yards and three scores. WR Deion Frasier caught nine passes for 167 yards and two TDs. DaVon Capers was credited with six tackles, two TFL, one sack and one fumble recovery on defense Struggling Aiken is coming off a 35-20 loss to White Knoll. The Hornets have been decent offensively of late, but are defensively challenged. Aiken has surrendered a region-high 253 points.
Series history: Dutch Forks 63-14 win last season was only the second in seven tries against Aiken.
