Hammond hosts SCISA region meet

At Hammond on Wednesday, the SCISA Region 1-3A meet will display some of the top contenders for the league championship, which is one week away.

Squads from Ben Lippen, Cardinal Newman, Hammond and Heathwood Hall, along with Augusta Christian will run the 3.1-mile course on Hammond’s South Campus beginning with the boys’ race at 5 p.m.

The girls’ race is scheduled to begin at 5:45. Heathwood Hall’s squad is the frontrunner in this race, after winning the Body Shop Athletics Invitational last weekend. The host Skyhawk girls placed 15th in that event.

Spring Valley hosts Sandhills Invitational

Twenty-five teams are slated to participate in the Sandhills Invitational on Saturday at the Sandhills Research Center.

The field, which includes teams from all classes, and is led by Bishop England, Airport, and Dutch Fork, will run the state championship meet course.

The meet begins at 9 a.m. with the girls’ open race, and seven-runner team competition starts with the girls’ varsity race at 9:45, with the boys’ race to follow.

VOLLEYBALL

Ridge View salutes service members

On Thursday, Ridge View takes on Richland Northeast in its third annual Salute to Our Armed Forces match. Both teams are looking to snap losing streaks, and scrapping for fifth place in Region 4-4A.

The Blazers are raising funds for the Wounded Warrior Project at the event through a raffle. The event begins at 6:30 p.m., with the varsity match to start at 7.

Also on Thursday, the SCISA Upper and Lower State volleyball tournaments for all classifications begin.

GOLF

State qualifiers for Class 3A and 4A girls golf

The Upper State qualifiers for Class 3A tees off at 10 a.m. on Monday at the Village Green Golf Club in Gramling. The Lower State match will have a shotgun start at 8 a.m. on Tuesday at Conway’s Hackler Course.

Both the Upper and Lower state qualifiers for Class 4A will be held on Monday — the Upper State squads, led by Lexington and Dorman, competing at Three Pines Golf Club in Woodruff and Lower State teams competing Wescott Country Club in Summerville. Those matches are slated to tee at 9:30 a.m.
