Celebrate National Cat Day on Tuesday

Posted on October 16, 2013

Your cat may act as if every day is National Cat Day, but it turns out Tuesday is the real deal.

Started by animal welfare advocate Colleen Paige in 2005, National Cat Day aims to encourage the adoption of shelter cats and to recognize all that our feline companions do for us.

There are plenty of ways to celebrate: adopt a cat from your local shelter, volunteer at an animal welfare organization, or pamper your current feline friends with their favorite treats and toys.

And if you think your pet is the cat’s pajamas, send us a photo at statefeatures@thestate.com. We’ll post our favorites here.

The State is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
