Haunted History Halloween

The Lexington County Museum, 231 Fox St., Lexington, is the backdrop for ghost stories and other unusual events illustrating the spooky history of the region. Tours will take place at 7, 7:30, 8 and 8:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children under 12. (803) 359-8369

Boo at the Zoo

Boo at the Zoo begins 6-9 p.m. Friday through Oct. 30 at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden, 500 Wildlife Parkway. Enjoy Frankenstein’s Foam Zone, Ray’s Moonlight Magic, a nightly costume parade, Mummy’s Eeky Freaky DJ Dance Party and other spooky activities. Trick-or-treating will be available for guests 12 and younger. Tickets are $9 (or $7 for zoo members) if purchased in advance online. Any remaining tickets will be $10 at the door. Saturday

‘State of the Heart’ panel

South Carolina writers Pat Conroy, Aïda Rogers, Dot Jackson, Vennie Deas Moore and Sam Morton will speak at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the Hollings Library at USC. They will discuss their work in “State of the Heart: South Carolina Writers on the Places They Love,” a compilation of essays about South Carolina published by USC Press earlier this year.
