Five Points community set to gather Friday

From Staff ReportsOctober 18, 2013

Members of the Five Points community — businesses, neighbors and students —are expected to gather at the fountain at 7 p.m. Friday as a sign of solidarity.

The Five Points Merchants Associaton has invited the public to the event in the wake of Sunday’s accidental shooting of Martha Childress, a University of South Carolina freshman who was hit by an errant bullet while waiting for a taxi.

USC officials have declared the area unsafe for students after midnight, and a forum Wednesday brought together city leaders, business leaders and community members to discuss how to make the area safer.
