COLUMBIA SC A motorcyclist who collided with another motorcyclist and lost control of his cycle and then was run over by a car has died.

The Saturday night crash was on Trotter Road, north of Garners Ferry Road and just east of Columbia, the S.C. Highway Patrol reported Sunday.

Richland County coroner Gary Watts on Sunday identified the motorcyclist as Tavaris T. Harp, 29, of 2940 Cubbage Road, Sumter, SC.

Harp, who was not wearing a helmet, “was operating a motorcycle at a high rate of speed when it collided with another motorcycle traveling with him and both lost control,” Watts said.

After the collision, Harp crossed into the path of a car traveling in the opposite direction on Trotter Road, Watts said.

Harp died at the scene and the other motorcyclist was taken by EMS to Palmetto Health Richland hospital in serious condition. His current condition is unknown.

The crash happened Saturday about 9:45.

The operator of the 2007 Ford that struck Harp was not injured.

The crash is under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
