— A Richland County highway fatality Sunday night was one of six that occurred over the weekend on South Carolina roadways.

Of those two were motorcyclists and one was a pedestrian, according to preliminary numbers compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.

In Richland County, 52 traffic fatalities have occurred so far in 2013. The county total is higher than the 39 that occurred during the same period last year.

Still, there have been fewer fatalities statewide this year in comparison to the same period in 2012. So far 594 people have been killed compared to 667 fatalities for the same period in 2012.

Of the 389 motor vehicle occupants who died across the state, 219 were not wearing seat belts.

In addition, 65 pedestrians, 105 motorcyclists and 12 bicyclists have died on state roads and highways.
