— A Eutawville man was arrested Wednesday for stealing a dog from Pets Inc. near West Columbia.

Curtis Roosevelt Davis, 59, is charged with stealing a 4-year-old, tri-color Chihuahua named Pixie Trixie on Oct. 10, according to a Lexington County Sheriff’s Department news release.

Davis asked if he could take Pixie Trixie for a short walk on a leash to get to know the dog. He walked the dog outside of the building and drove off with Pixie Trixie, who was worth about $250.

An employee at the center told deputies that Davis was accompanied by a 14-year-old girl who talked on her cell phone the entire time, the release said. The girl had no involvement in the theft of Pixie Trixie and will not be charged. Davis is a friend of the girl’s family, the release said.

The dog was later returned to the animal adoption center.

A CrimeStoppers tip helped detectives develop sufficient probable cause to obtain an arrest warrant for Davis, according to the sheriff’s department.
