Aiken County Sheriff hit by fleeing suspect

October 23, 2013

AIKEN, S.C. (AP) – Authorities say a man has been arrested after he hit Aiken County Sheriff Michael Hunt.

Deputies say Hunt was in an area Wednesday where several recent burglaries were reported and saw someone who matched the description of the suspect.

Investigators say the sheriff started to question the man and he started to run away, taking a swing and hitting Hunt as the sheriff tried to detain him.

Deputies say more officers and tracking dogs were called out and 31-year-old Nathan Lively was arrested a short time later. He has been charged with third-degree assault. It wasn't known if he had a lawyer.

A sheriff's spokesman says Hunt was not injured.
