Mariota maintains lead
Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota kept his spot atop The State’s Heisman Trophy poll for the second consecutive week after leading his team to a blowout win against UCLA. Mariota earned eight first-place votes from the poll’s 13 Heisman voters.
Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston and Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, who won the award last season, held on to the next two places after leading their teams to weekend routs.
Quarterbacks hold the first six spots with four of them playing for undefeated teams, including Alabama’s A.J. McCarron and Baylor’s Bryce Petty in addition to Mariota and Winston. Three USC players and two Clemson players received votes.
