— Democrat Russell Ott defeated Republican Charlie Stoudemire in the House district 93 special election on Tuesday.

Ott won with 68 percent of the vote in the district spread across Lexington, Calhoun and Orangeburg counties. He will finish the unexpired term of his father, former House minority leader Harry Ott, who resigned in June to lead the USDA's Farm Service Agency.

Ott will be up for re-election in November 2014.
