VOTER VOICES: Columbians speak out

October 30, 2013

Mary Wiernicki

Columbia voters will elect a mayor and three council members Nov. 5, and consider a strong mayor referendum Dec. 3. We asked voters what they see as the key issues in the city.

Mary Wiernicki, 32, a retail manager and Shandon resident, will be seeking a mayor who demonstrates fairness and a real desire to improve the city when she casts her vote. She believes the city needs a mayor who can prioritize issues and back up any idealistic talk with realistic plans of action regarding such things as violence, caring for the homeless and draining. Of those three issues, she said preventing violence is her greatest concern and the issue she’d like to see receive the most attention.
