— After being turned in by his co-workers, Daniel Timothy Brown, 24, was charged Friday with unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, Lugoff Fire Chief Dennis Ray said in a news release.

Brown had been with the Lugoff Fire Department since 2006 but resigned when the allegations came to light and before his arrest on Friday.

The victim, a girl younger than 16-years-old, was approached October 22 by fire department investigators about “their concerns that one of their firefighters had been engaged in inappropriate and unlawful sexual conduct with her,” the release stated.

She admitted the conduct and said it had occurred four times, twice in Lee County and twice at Brown’s house in Kershaw County.

Brown was put on unpaid leave October 23 and the case was referred to the Kershaw County Sheriff Department for investigation.

In announcing the arrest, Chief Ray said the unlawful sexual conduct did not occur while Brown was on duty.

Brown was being held in the Kershaw County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond.
