SCHOOLS

BROOKLAND-CAYCE HIGH SCHOOL swim team members raised $2,200 for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer at their third annual Breaststroke for a Cure Event at Quail Hollow Pool.

CROSSROADS MIDDLE SCHOOL teacher Susan Vaughn has been named Middle School Physical Education Teacher of the Year by the S.C. Association for Physical Education and Sports.

COMMUNITY

THE TOWN OF LEXINGTON named Mead & Hunt, Craig Reagin Clothiers and The Needler as winners of its Fifth Annual Historic Preservation awards.

YOUTH

EMILY COOK has been nominated to attend the Congress of Future Medical Leaders in Washington, D.C. She is a junior at Lexington High School.

MILITARY

AIR NATIONAL GUARD AIRMAN SEAN A. GASTON has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Alexander Gaston of Winnsboro and Wanda Gaston of Columbia.

ARMY PFC. TIMOTHY C. MCGRUDER has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. He is a 2009 graduate of Blythewood High School.

ARMY NATIONAL GUARD PVT. SHAKERIA L. SINGLETON has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson. She is the granddaughter of Chlotelia Bibbs of Estill.

ARMY NATIONAL GUARD SPC. JAZZMEN C. MCCREA has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson. She is the daughter of Monease Green of Columbia.

AIR FORCE AIRMAN ELIJAH N. RASHEED has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Charlene Rasheed of Columbia.
