COLUMBIA — Columbia police are investigating an afternoon shooting at Gonzales Gardens, a public housing complex on Forest Drive.
At least one victim received a gunshot wound to the lower body, said Jennifer Timmons, a Columbia Police Department spokeswoman. The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
A second gunshot victim was being treated at a local hospital but police investigators were trying to determine whether he was involved in the Gonzales Gardens shooting, Timmons said.
The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.
Gonzales Gardens is a known hangout for Bloods gang members. The housing complex is slated to be torn down and redeveloped, possibly starting in 2014.
Police have expressed concerns about displacing gang members to areas where rival gangs are located.
