Tuesday letters: School staff growth rate scary

November 5, 2013

— In response to Jackie Hicks’ Oct. 18 guest column (“Zais’ bag of tricks too scary for education”), I would add an item that is also scary.

According to the article, “10% more students but 48% more staffers?” which appeared in The State June 12: “The number of children in S.C. schools increased by 10.3 percent from 1995 to 2011. But the number of teachers and school administrators increased by 48.1 percent.”
