Wednesday letters: Democrats need to offer options

November 6, 2013

Memo to the Democratic Party: Now is the time to launch candidates to oppose our incumbent congressmen. As a relatively new resident, I was shocked by the 2012 ballot in my Lexington County district. I realize this county is primarily conservative, but to offer no opposition is sinful.

The federal government shutdown disgusted many Republicans just as it did a progressive like me. We need candidates who will work for the people they represent, not puppets who are hog-tied by pledges or only in office to serve big-business interests. Please don’t waste this opportunity. Give us choices.
