Friday letters: Mother’s words not comforting

November 8, 2013

— Does Juanita Smith expect us to believe that all her son, Michael Juan, needs is more sympathy? According to her, this pistol-toting, twice-convicted young father of a 2-year-old, hanging out on the streets until 2 a.m., is somehow the victim of “bad luck.”

However, she does assure us that he is no “thug.” How comforting.
