Tuesday letters: Why give anyone so much power?

— In 1887 Lord Acton wrote, “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

What do the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce and The State’s editorial writers not understand about this truism, as they push so hard for a strong mayor? Why would any intelligent person want to invest that much power in anyone, especially a politician? Vote “no” on the strong mayor proposition.
