Tuesday letters: Love for country isn’t idolatry

November 12, 2013

For Cal Thomas to interpret Isaiah 40:17 to condemn Christians’ love for their country as practicing “idolatry” is lunacy (“Greece, N.Y., enters debate on public prayer,” Nov. 6). By reading the entire text, you will find that his use of the one verse is contrary to its true meaning.

Our nation was founded on Christian principles, and this column is tantamount to trying to destroy our heritage. Throughout the Bible, there are numerous instances where God has blessed people and nations who follow his commandments.

Wake up, America, before it is too late.
