— Gov. Nikki Haley presented a check for $204,114 From Kangaroo Express to the S.C. Military Family Care Association at the State House on Wednesday.

The association, made up of all volunteers, helps to care for veterans who need help when they return from long deployments overseas.

"As a military spouse and family member, I know how much it means and how patriotic a state we are. But if you know what the Military Family Care Association does, it does amazing work," Haley said. "The fact that they are able to partner with our military families at the time when they really need it, at the time when they don't know what to do, it's good to have them there."

Haley's husband, Michael Haley, is deployed in Afghanistan with the S.C. National Guard. He is expected to return to the U.S. by the end of the year. Haley is the first sitting governor to have a spouse deployed on active military duty.
