Pints and pooches: Dog-friendly bars in the Midlands

November 14, 2013

Want to enjoy a beverage at a Midlands bar with your best canine friend?

Generally, a restaurant or bar with an outdoor patio will welcome dogs on a leash. Some places will even bring treats out for your dog. Check ahead with the restaurant to ensure you can bring a dog.

Check out these suggestions; find more on our new SC Pets page at thestate.com/scpets

Jakes on Devine, 2112 Devine St. (near Five Points): The outdoor area behind Jake’s is an ideal place to park your pooch and enjoy a pint. The bar and restaurant has a weekly Yappy Hour on Tuesdays beginning at 5:30 p.m. Well-behaving dogs – and their well-behaving owners – are welcome.

World of Beer, 902 Gervais St., in the Vista: The outdoor patio – partly covered and heated – is welcoming to leashed dogs. The covered patio also has TVs to watch games. Staff will bring out a water dish for hot days.

Cafe Strudel, 300 State St., West Columbia: The outdoor patio is dog-friendly for diners, especially after taking a walk on the Three Rivers Greenway; Cafe Strudel, in its new space on State Street, has added a full service bar for happy hour.

Flying Saucer Emporium, 931 Senate St.: The covered outdoor patio is heated in winter and has sample seating for humans and dogs.
