Coroner identifies driver killed in collision with cement truck near Irmo

November 14, 2013

— Richland County Coroner Gary Watts has identified the driver of a car that ran head-on into a cement truck on US 76 (Dutch Fork Road) near Irmo Thursday died after being trapped in the car following the noontime collision.

Glenna Shuler, 71, of Chapin was the driver and only occupant of the 2007 Buick four-door sedan.

The accident happened about a mile west of Irmo when Shuler's vehicle, which was heading east, crossed the center line of US-76 , sideswiped a west-bound truck and then ran into the cement mixer.

Neither the driver of the truck nor the cement mixer were hurt in the accident. Shuler was trapped in the vehicle and died on scene, Lance Corporal David Jones of the highway patrol said. The deceased driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
