Friday letters: Donated cars a boost to youth

November 15, 2013

The S.C. Foster Parent Association would like to thank everyone who donated vehicles to its On the Road Again program. This program provides transportation for foster youth who are 18-20, employed and pursuing a GED or post-high school education. Without a vehicle, young people must rely on public transportation to get them to and from work or school. Unfortunately, public transportation is not available in many rural areas of South Carolina.

With all the obstacles children aging out of foster care face as they work to become productive citizens, sometimes the absence of reliable transportation is the one that prevents them from succeeding. However, with reliable transportation, many beat the odds to reach independence and success.

This program relies on the generous donations from the public. When you donate your vehicle, your donation is tax deductible. And it makes a huge difference in the lives of these young adults. If you have questions about donating your vehicle, please call Patricia Jackson at (803) 438-4587 or visit our website at www.scfpa.com.
