— Gamecocks women's basketball coach Dawn Staley will receive the Order of the Palmetto, the state's highest civilian award, from Gov. Nikki Haley at halftime of the University of South Carolina-Florida football game at Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday.

Staley, a three-time Olympic Gold medal winner from Philadelphia, was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame this year. The former point guard has led the Gamecocks to two consecutive NCAA tournament trips since coming to the state where her mother lives.

"Don't know what I've done to deserve such a prestigious honor but all thanks to @nikkihaley," Staley tweeted.

In a statement, Haley said: “I am honored to ... recognize her outstanding leadership at the University of South Carolina. Her dedication to promoting success among young athletes will have a lasting impact, and we are deeply appreciative of all that she has done to make a positive difference in our great state.”
