Scott makes it two in a row in Australia

Melbourne, Australia ( - Hometown favorite Adam Scott closed with an even-par 71 on Sunday and won the Talisker Masters by two strokes.

Scott, who won this title for the second straight year, finished at 14-under- par 270. It was also his second straight win in his homeland. Last week, Scott won the Australian PGA. This was his fifth PGA Tour of Australasia victory.

The Australian mixed two birdies and two bogeys over a 5-hole span from the third. Around the turn, Scott birdied the 11th and 15th, but gave those strokes back as he double-bogeyed the par-3 14th. Scott wrapped up the win with three straight pars from the 16th at Royal Melbourne.

American Matt Kuchar closed with a 3-under 68 to take second place at minus-12. Vijay Singh, who started the day in a four-way tie for second place, managed an even-par 71 to end alone in third at 10-under-par 274.

Nick Cullen tripped 1-over 72 to finish in fourth at 9-under 275, while Ryan Fox (73) and Matthew Griffin (75) shared fifth at minus-6.

The story of the week was Jarrod Lyle's return to golf after a second battle with leukemia. The emotion carried him through three rounds, but he stumbled home with an 8-over 79 in the final round to end at 8-over 292, which left him tied for 57th.
