— About 100 adults and children protested the Common Core state standards at the S.C. Department of Education Monday.

Speakers included Republican state Sen. Lee Bright, a U.S. senate candidate who is a cosponsor to a Senate bill that would stop The Common Core standards, which S.C. Public schools are in the fully using in all grades.

Opponents of Common Core education standards asked S.C. parents to keep their children out of school Monday to join a protest of the standards.
